Common questions about using our Boring PPF (Paint Protection Film) off-cuts for DIY car wrap accents
Boring PPF Color is our higher-end paint protection film. Our color PPF carries a 7–10 year warranty and offers enhanced durability, better long-term performance, and stronger self-healing compared to our budget clear films. It’s designed for customers who want both paint protection and a color change, without sacrificing longevity or quality.
While both change your vehicle's color, Color PPF scraps are significantly thicker (usually 7-8 mils) than standard vinyl. Color PPF is a true paint protection film designed to absorb energy from road debris. When you use a leftover wrap in PPF, you aren't just getting a color change; you are adding a physical barrier that protects your factory paint from rock chips, scratches, and chemical stains.
Unlike vinyl scraps, most Color PPF requires a "wet" installation. This involves using a slip solution (usually water mixed with a small amount of baby shampoo) to float the leftover wrap into place. This method allows you to reposition the film easily and ensures that no dust or air is trapped underneath, resulting in a deep, paint-like finish that is characteristic of premium PPF.
Yes! One of the biggest advantages of using a Color PPF scrap is the self-healing top coat. If the leftover wrap gets light swirl marks or surface scratches from cleaning or road grit, you can simply apply heat (sunlight, warm water, or a heat gun) to the area. The heat allows the film to return to its original state, making scratches literally disappear and keeping your accents looking brand new.
Because Color PPF is more durable than vinyl, these leftover wraps are ideal for "high-impact" zones. We recommend using your scraps for side mirrors, door sills, B-pillars (the glossy black sections between windows), and front splitters. These areas are most prone to rock chips and scratching, making them the perfect candidate for the heavy-duty protection of a PPF leftover wrap.
Leftover wraps are final sale, which means we can’t accept returns on them. Since these are limited-quantity pieces cut from remaining material, once they’re gone, they’re gone — and we price them accordingly.
That said, if you run into an issue with fit or need a specific piece to complete a project, feel free to reach out. We’re always happy to help where we can, just no take-backs on leftovers.
Our materials are supplied in rolls that are 5 feet wide. The size or yardage listed for each color refers to the length of the material pulled from that roll, not the width. For example, if a color shows a certain number of yards available, that number represents how long the piece is at a fixed 5-foot width. This is how we calculate coverage and ensure there’s enough material to cut the required panels for your specific kit or project.
