When youโre shopping for a DIY PPF kit for your Model Y Juniper, durability and warranty are two of the most important things to look at. But thereโs a lot of confusing information out there.
Let me break it down.

Durability is how long the film should last in normal conditions. Road debris. Light scratches. The stuff your car deals with every day.
We did a fun video once where we shot BB guns at PPF and used flame torches. That was for entertainment. Real world durability is about protecting your paint from the things that actually happen on the road.
Hereโs how PPF works. Thereโs an adhesive layer that sticks to your paint. Then a polyurethane layer. Then a top coating made which makes it hydrophobic that give the film its self-healing ability.
That self-healing does soften over time. But the main job of PPF is protection. If a rock hits your hood or someone lightly dings your door, the film takes the impact instead of your paint.
Now, if something hits hard enough to visibly damage the film, itโs not going to magically heal. Youโll need to replace that panel.
This is where DIY really shines.
If you took your car to a shop for a panel replacement, youโd have to call them, get on the calendar, drop off the car. With DIY, you just order that specific panel from our website and replace it yourself in a weekend.
Most modern film is rated for about 10 years in normal conditions. Companies like Avery Dennison do extensive lab testing with accelerated weather conditions to determine this. Itโs not a guess.

This is where it gets important.

This comes from whoever makes the film. In our case, thatโs Avery Dennison. Theyโre one of the largest film providers in the world.
Their Supreme Defense PPF has a 10-year warranty on gloss and matte. Some color PPF has a 7-year warranty.
What does that cover? Defects. Peeling. Cracking. Yellowing.
Modern film has mostly figured this out. It doesnโt really yellow anymore. It doesnโt crack. And if edges are peeling, thatโs usually installation error, not a film defect.
But if thereโs an actual defect, like a bug trapped in the film from manufacturing, thatโs covered.
Hereโs the thing though. If you have an issue, youโre not going to deal with Avery Dennison directly. You deal with the supplier.

This is the more important one in practice.
Weโre the supplier. We buy Avery Dennison film, cut it, and ship it to you. When something goes wrong, you talk to us.
This is faster. You get a real person. Your problem gets resolved.
Our policy is simple. If thereโs a defect, show us what you see and we replace it free of charge. No questions asked. We stand by our products.

We created DIY Wrap Club Memberships that includes free replacements for up to 3 panels per order.
Why 3? Because our kits are designed for DIYers. We include a practice kit so you can test before you touch your car. Most customers need maybe one replacement. At most, three.
With the membership, those replacements are completely free. Weโre not making money on this. Weโre basically giving it at cost so we can keep supporting our customers.

When youโre evaluating any DIY PPF kit, make sure both warranties are solid.
A good supplier warranty doesnโt mean much if the manufacturer warranty is weak or the brand isnโt reputable. And a strong manufacturer warranty doesnโt help if the supplier disappears after the sale.
This is why we went with Avery Dennison. Large company. Amazing R&D team. Great track record. They stand by their products.
We only want to sell products we can stand behind. Thatโs the whole point.
